Alabama Department of Industrial Relations: Let Our One Stop Be Your First Stop

Hunting for a job can be hard work. Whether you are looking for a first-time job or exploring a new and better career, the process
can be challenging. The Alabama Department of Industrial Relations is committed to assisting you in achieving your goals by helping you make informed choices and offering support for you every step of the way.

There are over 60 One-Stop Centers throughout the state in Alabama's Career Center System. The Centers connect employment, education, and training services in one convenient location. Although every Center is different according to local needs, One-Stop Centers have a variety of services provided either by partner agencies, or information about these services will be made available to you. Larger One-Stop offices provide career resource rooms where you'll have access to personal computers, the Internet, local resources, and labor market information on the hottest jobs in the market today. The Alabama State Employment Service has a representative at every office.

We regularly hold job shop workshops focusing on all aspects of the job search process such as: writing a winning resume, filling out job applications, and interviewing skills. We can connect you to suitable job openings through our job referral service. If you are a veteran, we have specific resources for your special needs.

If you are looking for career advancement and new challenges, take advantage of our knowledge and experience to review your options, craft your resume and find available opportunities. We have the largest database of job opportunities in the state and we can help you as little or as much as you would like in your job search.

One-Stop Career Centers are also the place to visit if you are interested in learning new skills and to get information on training programs that will prepare you for jobs that are in demand.

If you'd like, you can even register for a job online through the Alabama Job Bank at: wwwdir.state.al.us/es. This Internet recruitment site allows you to look for a job 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. You can even enter your resume online for employers to view. There is even a special feature, called Job Scout, which will let you create a customized job search. All you do is enter your skills, qualifications, and interests and Job Scout will notify you by e-mail if there is a match with an employer job opening. Currently we have more than 466,000 job openings and over a million resumes posted.

Alabama's Job Bank is part of America's Job Bank, a nationwide U.S. Department of Labor Internet labor exchange service. So even if you are seeking a job in another part of the country you can get results from Alabama's Job Bank.

Did you know that special services may be available to you if you are either receiving unemployment compensation benefits; have been laid-off work due to a large plant closing or if you are an economically disadvantaged youth? There may also be tax credits to employers for hiring you if you are receiving food stamps or temporary assistance to needy families, are an ex-felon, are a veteran who has received food stamps, are an SSI recipient, or have been a vocational rehabilitation client, or live in an area designated as an enterprise or renewal community. Information on any of these programs may be obtained at the one-stop center.

Here in Alabama, we have a labor force of over two million and last year our Employment Service staff in One-Stop Centers assisted one of every five of these workers seeking first jobs, new jobs, or better jobs.
All of this was accomplished with Alabama remaining among the
most cost-effective employment service systems in the country. We are truly the gateway to Alabama's job and labor markets!
